How sales commission works
OTE is what you earn in a year if you hit exactly 100% of your quota: your base salary plus your target commission. A 50/50 split on $80,000 OTE means $40,000 base and $40,000 of commission at target.
Accelerators pay a higher rate on everything above 100%. With a 1.5× accelerator, each percent above quota pays one and a half times the normal rate. Some plans also have decelerators below a threshold or a cap on total payout; always ask about both in an interview.
